Cargas (Natural Gas Vehicles Company) was established in 1995 to be the first specialized Egyptian company in marketing and using compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel for vehicles, within an ambitious national strategy to transition to clean and eco-friendly energy sources.

In January 1996, the company launched the first public center for converting vehicles to run on compressed natural gas in Egypt, and indeed in Africa and the Middle East, which constituted an unprecedented qualitative step.

Cargas was established with fully paid-up capital, through contributions from a group of leading entities in the energy sector at the local and international levels.
